Description

This Anchor Hocking Forest Green (also called Emerald Green) Bubble Foot water goblet is a mid-century classic: a smooth, richly colored green bowl set on a clear crystal stem and a distinctive “bubble” or hobnail foot. The color is a deep, jewel-toned forest green that looks almost black in the shadows and glows like stained glass when light passes through it.

The bowl is plain, tapering from a modestly flared rim down to a rounded base with no pattern on the cup itself, so the color and the play of light are the main event. It is about 5¼ to 5⅝ inches tall with a rim roughly 3⅛ inches across, a comfortable water-goblet size that typically holds around 8–11 ounces. A thin wafer joins the bowl to a clear spherical knop on the stem; below that the stem flares into a circular foot decorated with several concentric rows of raised, rounded “bubbles.” Those hobnails give the foot a scalloped silhouette and catch light in a way that contrasts beautifully with the solid green bowl.

Collectors usually call this the Bubble Foot or Boopie pattern. Officially it belongs to Anchor Hocking’s No. 300 stemware line. It was made to coordinate with the company’s popular Bubble (also known as Bullseye or Provincial) dinnerware and with the broader Forest Green tableware that Anchor Hocking produced in the 1950s. The dinnerware itself used concentric rings of raised circles; the stemware borrowed that motif for the foot while keeping the bowl smooth. Production of the green-and-clear combination is most often dated to the early-to-mid 1950s, though related Bubble pieces continued into the 1960s. Unmarked, like most Anchor Hocking tableware of the period, the goblet is identified by the combination of the dark forest-green bowl, the clear ball-knop stem, and the distinctive multi-row bubble foot. It is both practical everyday glassware and a cheerful vintage accent, especially effective mixed with other Forest Green pieces or used as holiday tableware. The example in the photograph shows the characteristic rich color, clean mold work on the foot, and the classic mid-century silhouette that makes these goblets so recognizable.
