Description

This vintage United States twenty-dollar note is a Series 1950 D Federal Reserve Note from the Chicago district, sleeved for safekeeping. Andrew Jackson’s portrait sits at center with the black G seal for Chicago, district 7 corner numerals, and the green Treasury seal over the hollow word TWENTY. Serial number G 78678874 C is printed in green.

Series 1950 D is clearly marked on the face. The note carries the signature combination associated with this late 1950 D production, Elizabeth Rudel Smith and C. Douglas Dillon as read on the note. Along the bottom, the older-style obligation reads that the note will pay to the bearer on demand twenty dollars. The reverse White House engraving in these photos does not show the later In God We Trust placement seen on many subsequent series, another cue of this earlier design generation that collectors watch for.

Visually the note looks well preserved for its age: relatively flat in the sleeve, even coloring, presentable margins, and no heavy tears or dramatic stains in the listing shots. A strong mid-century Chicago twenty with bearer-on-demand language and classic small-portrait styling, great for collectors who want a Series 1950 D example with clear district and serial identity for an album or type set.
